God created the world and he created you! He created everything perfect. We, however, rejected God and tried to run lives our own way. God will not allow rebellion forever and his punishment for rebellion (sin) is death.
He is a loving God (and also a just God) and the bible says that because he loved the world he sent his son Jesus to take the punishment for our sin.
Acts 2: 22 – 24:
Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
To become a Christian:
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2: 38-39)
So…to avoid the punishment that we deserve all we need to do is say sorry to God for the things we have done wrong, turn from our ways that are in opposition to God (Eg. pride, selfishness, lust, greed, etc) and believe in his son Jesus!
John 1: 9 – 13
The true light [Jesus] that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
